A Thai journalist lectures Thailand on Cambodian-Thai border conflict

The editor of this article (Supalak Ganjanakhundee), his hometown is right in the front line. He really respects PM Hun Sen. I watched him giving an interview on the Thai national TV and I quote "this is the 21 century. Not only Thailand has the guns, Cambodia also has guns. Don't Thais think they can just walk over Cambodia, fighting for territory is out of dates. Whatever happens with treaty, whether we like it or not it is binding, we have to solve the problem peacefully. Lesson have been learned from the Thai-Laos war (in 1988). What we got from that fighting is losing at the end and we have to come to the negotiation table. Why don't we start to negotiate now, why let a lots people die and then we come back to the negotiation table later? Nobody in the 21st century use force to solve the border issues any more."

He also commented (every time his excellency Hun Sen warn Thailand, we think PM Hun Sen just bluffs, but his excellency never bluffs, things always happen and Thailand never learned and Thailand should learn from his excellency).

He also warned Thailand "Thailand is fighting the losing battle, because Cambodia has the treaty of 1904-1907 and ICJ ruling and has more friendly countries than Thailand. PM Hun Sen knows Thai politics, knows what the Thai thinking are and he knows what Thailand knows about Cambodia, which is nothing much".

(PAD) supporters, frothing at the mouth, cheered and clapped as Thai troops damaged the ancient Preah Vihear temple that the extreme Thai nationalists claim was “stolen” from Thailand. The PAD has been trying to start a war with us, using the pathetic excuse that an ancient Khmer temple belong to them.
The temple is clearly belong to us. This is all a displacement activity by manic right-wing royalists who are afraid that they are beginning to become irrelevant. No doubt some PAD want another military coup in Thailand and a war with Cambodia. They will not be on the border facing the bullets themselves, however. It will be the poor conscripts and villagers who will pay the price. Recently a joint PAD-Democrat Party team deliberately intruded into Cambodian territory in order to cause an international incident. They were promptly arrested and PAD nutter Wira Somkwamkit is still in a Cambodian prison.
Prime Minister Abhisit, fresh from murdering 91 unarmed pro-democracy demonstrators in May 2010, has said that he is not afraid of war with Cambodia. He wouldn't be. He won't be dying, nor will any of his rich relatives. His foreign minister Kasit Pirom is a well-known PAD member and has been itching for other people to die in a pointless war with Cambodia for years.
Thailand dig the hole deeper and deeper and not able to get out from it the way to cure the scars from the past is Thailand should overhaul it history textbooks respect neighboring countries and have a good look at themselves .
Thais academics warned the government of going to war with Cambodia "even we won the war we won't have the ownership of Prear Vihear temple and risk of label as outlaw country by international communities it is irreversible the right to appeal of the ICJ verdict is 10 years and we haven't done anything in last 50 years and why now ? let it go before we embarrass ourselves any further".

Most Thai academics know full well that Preah Vihear temple and the surrounding lands belong to Cambodia. And because the 1904 and 1907 treaties and the 1962 ICJ verdict are on Cambodia's side, Thailand risked becoming an international pariah if it continues to wage a war of aggression against Cambodia. Thai leaders know they can't have Preah Vihear temple, but they want to force Cambodia to cede the surrounding lands or share the lands with Thailand for future tourist developments. This what Thailand wants.

Power without wisdom always results in such mistakes.

If Thai academics really want good result in Khmer Thai relationship to happen they must keep a steady voice in their media not just pumping theirs opinions out only after their government policy hits a snag. That I would called it hypocrisy. How about Thai religious leaders where are they?.I only see Asoke group who used the word Asoke without really know its meaning to come out and protest against Cambodia.
As an outsider now I start to believe that Thais are tricky people used academic as a tool for damage control.Keep your volume constant in a consistent way if you are sincere Thai academics! you can not fool too many people too many times.
