Eleven Boeung Kak Lake residents were arrested today, 21 April 2011, during a demonstration outside the Phnom Penh Municipality office. Two of the eleven arrested are said to be children. The arrests were made during a brutal crackdown on a demonstration in which violence was used against protestors. Human Rights monitors at the scene have stated that protestors as old as 70 were beaten by police in uniform and plain clothes using electric batons. The protestors had gathered outside the office of the Phnom Penh Municipality as seven community leaders had been invited by the Deputy Governor to attend a meeting. After the meeting the seven leaders were arrested together with four other protestors.
Responding to the violent crackdown on the demonstration and the arrest of the protestors, Ou Virak, President of CCHR, a non-political, independent, non-governmental organization that works to promote and protect democracy and respect for human rights throughout Cambodia, commented:
“This is a shocking and entirely unjustifiable response to a peaceful protest by the disenfranchised lake residents. The arrests of children and beatings of elderly women represent a new low in what has already been a hardly fought land conflict. If anything, the actions of the authorities today illustrate that the rights to freedom of assembly and expression of ordinary Cambodians is secondary to the business operations of the wealthy and well connected. What is of particular concern however is the extent to which the authorities are clearly willing to go to facilitate those business operations”.

These people came and clearing lands, taken lands that belonged to STATE! You just can't come and take things that belonged to state...people!! You are lucky that this Govts willing to give each family $8000.00 for relocation...or you an take a new condo, but people are greedy today, they want more that Govts can't give them?? Example, you gave them a new car and they want money for gasoline too...! People must realize that lands belonged to STATE!! Govts want to make our city become modern and good for every cambodian...
People took advantage on Govts, because they seen land's price is high skyrock in today's market...
Govts build a new condo for people, all the same style model, everyone getting the samething.....or they can take $8000.00 to relocate somewhere else..But people wanted gold and diamond...Both?? You can't do that man!
Basically, the land belongs to the people and the CPP (criminal people party) just came and robbed the people randomly. People asked for only $100 and the CPP crooks would not even give it to them.
Some of these people were taken and never come back again. Could not even find them in jail. Don't talk about money, they would be luck to escape with their skin on their body.
The land price in Cambodia are dead, no market at all after the world financial crisis. The value of land that cost normally $1,000,000 drop to just $20,000 and nobody even want it.
hi you F... stupit ash...the land belong to the people not to the gorverment. get it !!!!!let kill all cambodian people and give this land to Ayourn or foreiner because they have power and money. this show that this gorverment is not capable to give security to ourown people!!! this gorverments offficials are communists and doen't care about peoples. that's all they care is power and money.
do you remembered ash... when you people were poor and you guys start to hate the rich and became the communists yourselves and not long ago!!!now you are doing the same thing. you will see very soon ash... people will not tolerated any more then it will be your turn again ash....tell your mother be careful time will turn soon!!!
People want to get rich fast, they came and clearing forest taken lands belonged to state, as they did to Boeng Tonle Sap Lake area...when Govt take it back, they fought and refused, complaint about abusive..?? People must realize that everything not belonget you...govts has the right to take it back...
Land's price is booming, people went nut, want to get rich fast...by clearing and taken lands belonged to state...you just can't do that!
Uprising is going to start within the CPP, the military personnel and commanders are calm down as Hun Sen give them badges & star badges. Sooner rather than later where it's reach the point those star badges are going be worthless. Throw those worthless star badges away so you do not own the CPP anything. Pick up your arms and do the right things. United Khmer People are waiting for action.
No Khmer ever vote for the CPP and Hun Sen, he won the elections because the his illegal viets in cambodia voted for him. The viets should never allowed to vote, but the yuon head he want power. The viets are his best supporters. Now he is real face is killing Khmer people everyday for his viets supporter in Cambodia. Hun Sen is an illegal ruler and wanted for the murdered of two millions Khmers during the Pol Pot era. He and the rest of his clan should be in the Hague.
The land belong the people who occupied it since 1979, right after the ouster of the Pol Pot regime. Hun Sen, Chea Sim and other CPP leaders also occupied a lot of other people's properties at that time, like Hun Sen occupied someone's house near the Independent Monument and Chea Sim occupied Son Sann's house. Now because the land price has skyrocketed and the corrupt officials and businessmen like Lao Meng Khin connived to confiscate people's land so they can get rich quick. I beleive that if things are going like this, soon there will be people's power uprising similar to the Arab revolution that has been taking place now.
