Thai authority at Prum border Crossing on the Pailin-Chantaburi border has banned the exports of Cambodian primary produced to Thailand and Cambodia's Pailin authority retaliated by banning the imports of Thai produce to Cambodia, triggering a mini trade war along the border.

Cambodian officials manning the Prum Border Checkpoint told Deum Ampil by telephone on Sunday 13th March that the Thai authority banned the exports of Cambodian chilli, corns, lime, lemon and mango into Thailand without any proper reasons. They said after the Thai ban, Pailin Governor Ee Chhean retaliated and ordered the bans of imports of all Thai produce into Cambodia from Prum Checkpoint. The Cambodian bans had enraged the Thai authority.

However, after Cambodia's retaliation and after discussions between Thai and Cambodian , border trades at Prum Checkpoint has returned to normalcy and all produce flow freely again across the border.

Border officials said the border trade dispute only occurred at Prum checkpoint, but the dispute did not spread to other border areas like Poipet International Checkpoint.

Cambodia should retaliate like this every time Thailand banned our exports or closed the border. After all Thailand is the one who will lose more because it has about $2 billion yearly trade surplus with Cambodia, mainly border trades.
