Cambodian Worker Brutally Murdered

A brutal Cambodian construction worker, stabbed his co-worker and countryman, right in the heart causing his immediate death, when they were drinking with other workers.

Sattahip, 8th January 2011 [PDN]: At 00.30 An illegal Cambodian construction worker brutally killed a member of his drinking party, who was also Cambodian, by stabbing him straight in his chest with a knife. The knife cut into the vital points of his heart resulting in immediate heart failure, and after that, the assailant dashed into a forest area to hide. His Cambodian friends from the drinking party following him, leaving only one behind, because he had passed out drunk and was lying on the ground near the body of the recently slain man.

This murder was uncovered at 12.30 am on Tuesday 8th January, when Police Captain BhithichonThetkiardtigun, who is an investigation officerr at Sattahip in the Chonburi Province, was notified about the murder in a construction workers camp sight, at Soi Ruam-mit, (Moo 10) in Bang-Saen, near Sattahip. Various officers including Police General Somchai Sunthavanik, of the Sattahip Police Station Sattahip, plus an investigation team and an official of the rescue foundation from Sattahip, immediatley attended the scene.

This crime scene was a camp for the construction workers of an associated residential village, consisting five rows of rooms with galvanized roofing. Near the the second room, lay the body of the murdered construction worker, lying in a pool of his own blood. He was found topless, wearing only white pants with flower patterns, and upon investigating the body, it was found that the he had been stabbed with a long sharp knife in the middle of the heart. The wound approximately 20 cm. deep, and this wide wound even exposed his viscera. The body was identified as that of 27 year old Mr. Pae, who was a Cambodian construction worker.

After investigating the crime scene, the murder weapon was not found and the other construcion workers consisted of about ten Thai and Cambodian workers, who ran into a forestry area behind the camp. One of them was caught and was identified as 31 year old Mr. Jan Thonjan, a Cambodian construction worker, who was at that time still intoxicated, so the police therefore quarantined him for later questioning.

When questioning the suspect of murder Mr Jan, this Cambodian construction worker failed to make a clear statement. The only thing that could be established through his statements was that he and the other Cambodian workers were sitting and drinking alcohol infront of the camps, until Mr. Pae, (the murdered Cambodion worker), started behaving impertinantly, thus provoking another Cambodion co-worker and this resulted in a heavy physical fight. Eventually Mr. Pae was stabbed with the knife, right through his heart and he died immediately. The murderer (who supposedly could not be identified) then dashed off into the forest to hide, along with the other workers who had witnessed the incident, were afraid of getting caught by the police, so they all ran seperate ways inside the forest.

Police Captain Bhithichon Thetkiardtigun said, at first he did not believe the report by Mr. Jan, as he was circling around the scene and not making a statement. He is the only witness the police have found, and later the police suspected that Mr. Jan was aware of the identity of the murderer. However, he was afraid to make this knowledge available, as he was afraid of getting murdered himself. Mr. Jan is being kept at the police station for further questioning in order to solve the case. The body was taken to a hospital about 10 km from Sattahip, for examination and to find traces of struggle plus other evidence that caused the brutal murder by one of his own own countrymen.
