Prime Minister Hun Sen has launched a scathing attack on those who claimed to be defenders of the Cambodian monarchy, saying that the real defender of the Cambodian monarchy is his Cambodian People's Party who had never boasted that it is a royalist party or a defender of the monarchy like other political parties.

Speaking during an annual meeting of the Ministry of Rural Development at Chaktomoukh Theatre on 29th December 2010, Prime Minister Hun Sen had attacked an unnamed political party (Norodom Ranariddh Party?) which publicly declared in 2008 that if it didn't win the election, the monarchy will be significantly weakened. "Now, please see what the real situation is? When the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) hold a two-third majority in the parliament, the monarchy has become stronger than never. This is the truth. The one (Prince Norodom Ranariddh?) who boasted (to be a defender of the monarchy) had not even been elected to the parliament, so what can he do?", Hun Sen said.

Mr. Hun Sen added that his CPP, which holds a super majority in the parliament and therefore has the power to decide the fate of the monarchy, is the real defender of the king and the monarchy. "As for the CPP, which has a super majority in the parliament, we respect the king, we respect the throne, we respect the monarchy. But we don't need to say we are the royalists", he said.

Mr. Hun Sen also attacked those who claimed to be democrats and patriots. He said the real democrats and patriots never declared that they are democrats and patriots. He complained that if all political parties claimed they are all democrats, patriots and royalists, where can the CPP fit in. "Now, what do you think, where can we stand, if everyone declared that they are all nationalists, monarchists, Sihanoukists, democrats, human rights defenders? They took everything, so what is left for us (the CPP)? So there is only one left for us, the people. And that is we are the people's party", he said.

He added that his CPP never boasted of its achievements, but that it has developed the country and turned dirt roads into very nice paved roads.

Hi Hun Xen
I rather have dirt road without Youn than paving road with Youn in it.

I agree. One more thing, all paved roads come from aid money or borrowed money that our children have to work hard to repay. Millions, and perhaps billions, of dollars in real money, in taxes, natural resources and our forests, have gone into the pockets of corrupt leaders like Hun sen, Sok An and Cham Prasidh.
