The ruling Cambodian People's Party has celebrated the 7th January Day to mark the 32nd of the ouster of the Khmer Rouge and to celebrate its coming to power in 1979.

The ceremony, held at 7:30 a.m this morning at the party headquarter, was attended by Chea Sim, president of the CPP and Senate president, Heng Samrin, founding president of the present regime and current chairman of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Hun Sen and other CPP dignitaries.

Speaking to the party faithful, Mr. Chea Sim said the day must be celebrated to remember the Khmer Rouge crimes and to commemorate the victory and sacrifices of the Khmer and Vietnamese men and women who died to liberate the Cambodian people from the murderous Khmer Rouge regime. He called the 7th January as the second birth of all Cambodians.

During the speech, Mr. Chea Sim said that the ruling CPP is happy to see the easing of tensions along Cambodian-Thai border. he said he support the government's policy of a peaceful resolution to the Cambodian-Thai border dispute in order to develop the border into a zone of peace.

Mr. Chea Sim had reiterated again that, on behalf of the CPP, he support Mr. Hun Sen's prime ministerial candidate for the 5th mandate and beyond.

thanks Khmerization, 7 January it have positive, but some people they focus on negative, why people oppose each other on the wrong things, they must accept the truth.
Yes we must positively challenging some unfairness and corruption but not 99+ 1 percent opposing each other, its sound silly for intellectual people.

It is more appropriate to celebrate the Paris Peace Agreements on 23rd October every year because it is an agreement that brought peace and national reconciliation to Cambodia. January 7th is a date too controversial because some believe it is a day of Vietnamese invasion. Also, Vietnam was the one who brought or helped the Khmer Rouge to power in 1975, so it doesn't make sense that it is now celebrating the downfall of the Khmer Rouge and its victory over this movement.
