Members of parliament from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) said they plan a make a trip to the Cambodian-Vietnamese borders to visit a number of border posts after villagers claimed they were planted inside Cambodian territory.
In a public statement released yesterday, the SRP said a number of MPs will visit five border posts in Kampong Cham province. Mr. Mao Monivann, SRP MP from Kampong Cham, said that the SRP parliamentary delegation will visit border post Nos. 109, 108, 110, 111 and 107 in Memot district of Kampong Cham province.
In recent months, villagers claimed that border post No. 109 was planted inside Cambodian territory. A delegation from the Cambodian Watchdog Council, which visited the areas on 5th December, had also confirmed that border post No. 109 and other posts were planted about 200 metres deep inside Cambodian territory.
Mr. Var Kimhong, chairman of Cambodian Border Commission, said the SRP MPs can visit border posts that have been planted already, but the government will not allow them to visit border posts that are still in the process of planting.
