In a statement released on Wednesday 9th December, Prime Minister Hun Sen said he will not oppose the return of Prince Norodom Ranariddh to politics. However, he has dispelled rumours that he will form a tripartite coalition with both the Funcinpec and Norodom Ranariddh Party.
He rejected rumours that any government officials from the Funcinpec Party who defected to the Norodom Ranariddh Party can still retain their positions. He has now stated clearly that any government officials from the Funcinpec Party who had defected to the Norodom Ranariddh Party will be sacked from the government and their positions.
Mr. Hun Sen's statement came after Prince Ranariddh has announced that he will return to politics and called on all members of the Funcinpec Party to defect to his yet-to-be renamed Norodom Ranariddh Party. However, with Mr. Hun Sen's statement, Prince Ranariddh political fate seemed to have been sealed.
