Siem Reap province alone has more than 500 millionaires

By Khmerization

The Anti-Corruption Commission has started to receive the registrations and declarations of assets from 10,000 government officials, a process which was required under a new anti-corruption law enacted by parliament a few months ago.

During a speech to 500 municipal officials and senior police officials in Phom Penh recently, Mr. Om Yintieng (pictured), the head of Anti-Corruption Commission, said that so far the registrations have found out that there are 500 people who have become U.S dollar millionaires, just in Siem Reap province alone.

He, however, said did not say how many millionaires are there in the whole of Cambodia. But with the majority of rich businessmen and rich government officials all residing in Phnom Penh, Cambodia could see no less than a few thousands U.S dollar millionaires in the whole of the nation, while at the same time there are more than 10% of the nation's population still living below poverty line.
