Hun Sen denied Cambodia lost land to Vietnam

Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) has denied that Cambodia has lost any land to Vietnam, saying that the opposition parties have made the allegations to advance their own political interests.

Mr. Hun Sen denial was made after 4 opposition MPs had written a letter to him stating that Cambodian farmers have claimed that Vietnamese authority had planted border posts inside their lands.

Mr. Hun Sen said the opposition's allegations are accusatory in nature and aimed at causing troubles with Vietnam. He said the areas in question are still under demarcation works and therefore all farmers, Cambodian and Vietnamese, are prohibited from farming the land.

Mr. Sam Rainsy, president of the eponymous Sam Rainsy Party, however, claimed that the present demarcation works have encroached on Cambodian territory and Cambodian farmers' land and is calling on the government to immediately put a moratorium to the present demarcation works. "Because these border demarcation works have no transparency. The people living along the borders did not know and were not invited to participate in this process. Instead they have always been victimised due to the border plantings which have caused them to lose lands and houses", said Mr. Sam Rainsy from his exile in Paris.
