Direct air link between Cambodia and Indonesia, due to commence in September, has been postponed due to some legal hurdles that needed to be worked out.

The announcement was made by Indonesia's ambassador to Cambodia after the conclusion of Trade Fair at Koh Pich in Phnom Penh on Thursday night of 4th November when he also announced Indonesia is planning to buy 300,000 tonnes of rice from Cambodia. Garuda Indonesia (pictured), the Indonesian national carrier, planned to make direct flights from Indonesia to Cambodia via Singapore in September, but the Indonesian government delayed the flights because the Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs has not finalised a free-visa arrangements with Cambodia yet. Cambodia, however, has finalised all its free-visa arrangements with Indonesia.

The ambassador hopes the direct flights between the two countries will happen before the end of this year. "I am hopeful that direct flights will start before the end of the year. The two countries had reached an agreement and the airline companies are waiting for all procedures to be finalised", he said.
In recent months, there are media reports that France and Germany will commence direct flights to Cambodia early next year.
