Border dispute
MORE than 200 villagers from Kampong Cham province have thumbprinted a document accusing Vietnamese authorities of encroaching on their fields in Memot district.

Sum Sarith, a representative from Da commune’s Da Kandaul village, said yesterday that around 260 people had signed the complaint, which they planned to file to the National Assembly, civil society groups and the government’s border demarcation committee.

Var Kimhong (pictured), senior minister in charge of border affairs, dismissed the complaint, saying the Da commune chief was aligned with the opposition party and had probably incited farmers to petition the government.

“They have already been told, if they just planted posts it does not mean [the farmers] lose anything. They allow people to farm the same,” he said.

Who is this guy [Var Kimhong], what qualification does he has to be incharge of government's border demarcation committee. Why is he always sided with the Vietnamese, and against our innocent Cambodian at all times. Is the a Vietnamese, or he is so afraid of the Vietnamese. When was the last time that Mr. Var Kimhong sided with our people against the Vietnamese encroachment of our territories every single day. The government should aggressively looking into claims made by people and do they can to help their people, and seeking every alternative to punish the thieves that stealing our lands, that what every government on the face of this earth would. Gov't don't throw their own people in jail every time people complain that their farmlands being stolen by the foreigners. If the Vietnamese think that we stealing their lands, their government would kill us all, and they will give guns to their people to shoot and kill us all. I think our innocent Cambodia people that living along the borders should given weapons and guns to protect their lands and properties.

It is very sad to see Cambodia's border committee chairman Var Kimhong said like this " if they just planted posts it does not mean [the farmers] lose anything." Sva Kimhong, if Vietnam planted the border posts inside Cambodian territory, not only that the farmers will lose their lands, but the Cambodian nation as a whole will lose its territory and sovereignty as well. You are the border committee chairman, you have the duty to protect Khmer land, not defend foreign interests.
