Opposition criticised NA Deputy President for having 71 advisors

The opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) has expressed concerns that Deputy President of the National Assembly (NA), Mr. Nguon Nhel (pictured), are having too many advisors that could drain the already-overstretched national resources unnecessarily.

On 27th August, 13 SRP MPs had written a letter to NA President Heng Samrin asking him to investigate the irregularities in the appointments of 71 advisors by Mr. Nguon Nhel, demanding that the case be referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission. In a reply to the 13 MPs, Mr. Heng Samrin defended his deputy, saying he needed those 71 advisors to help him.

Mr. Chea Poch, SRP MP from Prey Veng, told RFA on 4th September that the excessive appointments of these advisors had costed the government 112 million riels ($28,000) per month in salary. "71 advisors are very excessive. What are the duties of those advisors? And do they come to the office (to work) or not? How much have they helped the people already?", he said.

However, Mr. Cheam Yeap, chairman of parliamentary Finance and Audits Committee, said that Mr. Nguon Nhel needed all the 71 advisors to help him with his daily works. "Because he wanted to cover his works in all the provinces in dealing with dispute complaints. He will send those advisors to deal with those disputes and report to him", said Mr. Cheam Yeap.

Prime Minister Hun Sen had publicly on 20th August warned that he will sack any military or civilian leaders who had made irregular appointments or reshuffles in their institutions or departments.

I smell corruptions. To have 71 advisors to advise one dumbass to think and make decision is corruption. Thank god for that newly corruption law passed and signed by Ah Hun Sen...right? Now maybe Ah Hun Sen can put those laws into use by start charging his own gangs for corruptions. Or maybe that laws don't apply to CPP members and the gangs, but only apply to opposition party and average Cambodian.

Pure corruption. According to Cheam Yeap, Nguon Nhel needs all these 71 advisors, including his own bother-in-law, to help him deal with the complaints from all provinces. However, everyday, people in all provinces cry for help after corrupt senators, officials and investors, with the connivance of officials, grabbed or confiscated their lands but we never see Nguon Nhel's advisors came to see them or took their complaints to anywhere. Nguon Nhel and his boss, Heng Samrin, should be impeached for corruption.
