Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced during a cabinet meeting on Friday the 3rd of September that 27 communes in 7 districts of Kandal province will be incorporated into part of Phnom Penh City administration.

He said incorporation of these communes into the administration of Phnom Penh City was necessary to accommodate the growing population of Phnom Penh and to facilitate road and transport infrastructures of the ever-expanding Phnom Penh City.

Mr. Chhun Sirun, Governor of Kandal province, told Kampuchea Thmey that the 27 communes that will become part of Phnom Penh are in 7 districts of Kandal province. He said those 27 communes are: 3 communes of Ponhea Leu, 6 communes of Ang Snuol districts, 5 communes from Kandal Steung districts, 4 communes from Kien Svay districts, 2 communes from Lovea Em districts, 5 communes from Ksach Kandal districts and 2 communes from Mukh Kompoul districts.

The PM said that the incorporation or the transformation of these 27 communes into part of Phnom Penh City will take no longer than one year.
