Cambodia and Thailand have strengthened their troops around the Ta Moan Thom (pictured) and Ta Krabey temples after Cambodia strongly rejected Thailand's its expressed wish to repair the temples earlier this month.
However, as of Tuesday, the situations near the temples still remain normal despite both countries had strengthened their troops near the areas. CTN TV had quoted Mr. Neak Vong, commander of Cambodia's 42nd Division based at Ta Moan Thom temple, as saying that he had prohibited Thai people from coming to do repair works in the temple compound or even the walls of the temple because it is a Khmer temple. But, he said the situation had not been tense so far.
Last week, Gen. Chea Dara, Cambodian Deputy Commander-in-Chief, had warned that Cambodia will use force if Thailand sent in people to do repair works in the temple compound. He said that, according to the 1904-1907 Franco-Siamese Treaty and border post No. 23 planted nearby, Ta Moan Thom and Ta Krabey temples are located under the sovereignty of Cambodia.
