The Vietnamese president, Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet (pictured), will pay a three-day official visit to Cambodia next week at the invitation of King Sihamoni, extended during his visit to Vietnam at the end of June, reported Radio Free Asia.

A Cambodian Foreign Ministry official said on Sunday that Mr. Nguyen, who will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Tran Thi Kim Chi, will lead a Vietnamese delegation to Cambodia from 26-28 August.

Mr. Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said the visit of the Vietnamese president is just an exchange of the visit of the heads of state between the two countries and no agreements will be signed during the visit. "This official visit happened by the invitation of the king to the Vietnamese president and his wife. They will have an audience with the king and meeting with other Cambodian leaders as well as paying a visit to the Patriarchs of the two Buddhist sects", he said.

Mr. Yim Sovan, spokesman for the opposition Sam Rainsy Party is calling on the Cambodian government to review border agreements with Vietnam as well as the trade imbalances between the two countries. "Please ask Vietnam not to plant border markers inside Cambodian territories. In regard to trades, we had a big (trade) deficit. Vietnam had exported to Cambodia worth $2 billion, but Cambodia had exported to Vietnam worth less than 10% of the Vietnamese exports to Cambodia. The immigration issue is very hot, we see that large numbers of immigrants had flowed into our country, especially Vietnamese immigration. I ask the Cambodian government to implement our immigration laws. At the same time, Vietnam must not harbour any ambitions of controlling Cambodia or sending immigrants to control Cambodia", he said.

King Sihamoni had visited Vietnam at the end of June at the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet. During the visit, the Cambodian king had returned his invitation to the Vietnamese president to visit Cambodia.
