A DECADES-OLD dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over ownership of a controversial temple could be settled in Bahrain.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has agreed to consider a Cambodian plan for managing the temple, which is located on land claimed by both countries.
Unesco's World Heritage Commission is now expected to reach a decision on the Preah Vihear temple during its meeting in Bahrain next year.
Thailand claims Cambodia's plan jeopardises its claim to disputed territory and threatened to quit Unesco if it was endorsed during a meeting in Brazil last week.
In 1962, the International Court of Justice ruled the 10th Century border temple belonged to Cambodia, rejecting Thai claims.
Unesco named Preah Vihear a World Heritage Site in 2008 based on an application submitted by Cambodia, which re-ignited Thai resentment over the earlier ruling.
There have been small and sometimes deadly armed clashes in the area during the past few years, with leaders of both countries using the issue to stir up nationalist sentiment and shore up domestic political support.
In Thailand, nationalist pressure groups demonstrated last week for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to take a hard line against Cambodia and Unesco.
The two sides' military leaders spoke about strengthening their respective forces at the border in preparation for any incursions from the other side.

What people don't know is that Cambodia may have a harder battle next year as the Bahrain WHC session will be co-chaired by THAILAND!!! Already the Thai lobbying efforts in Brazil managed to "delay" decision of the WHC to postpone it to next year...
Our Cambodian government and people must not let our guard down, this is the second time that UNESCO committee members have delayed or postponed the final consideration whether to approve our plan or to reject our plan. Now the Unesco's World Heritage Commission is now expected to reach a decision on the Preah Vihear temple during its meeting in Bahrain next year, and no body know what decision the UNESCO members will be rendered next year. Now, we must discuss among ourselves and consult with the experts of how to pursue this matter to a true victory resolution. Our Cambodian gov't must present every documents and arguments to influent the decision makers, to show why they should approve our plan, and why the Thai made illegitimate claim. Our Cambodian people inside the country and all over the world must unite together to call, email, send letter to the UNESCO Members and to rally all over the world to protest against the Thai that they falsified this claim and to influent and support the UNESCO members to ultimately approve our Preah Vihear Temple Management Plan. Only one solution is to file a complaint against Thailand for the UN.
Since this UNESCO is all about culture and education,UNESCO cannot make any decision.
I would like Cambodia to talk with UN security council on this problem.
And, let the UN to give recommendation for us. Since we want to save face of Thailand, only the UN's pressure that effect UNESCO's decision against this bully childish, and aggressive country (Thailand).
I previously heard only that there are unfair in justice in a family, especially in corruption country like my country, Cambodia.
Now, there are unfair between country and country.
Thailand is the allies of the US.
That's why they seem to save face of this childish country.
Thailand raise uniliterally statment by threatening Cambodia and UNESCO.
I just doubt what is the UN then?
I cannot afford not to reliaze that the UN is just a tool for only one country, which is the US.
If my belief comes true, the UN should be diminished.
So that, we can fully declare the war. No matter what, I am ready to war because "For Thailand, Cambodia gave too much, almost everything. We have only breath, so one life is only one time. I will use my life for my country. No matter lose or win, we should deserve a pride of our country.
