Two Thais arrested and released for illegally crossing border into Cambodia

Everyday.com quoted the Phnom Penh Post as reported that Cambodian soldiers patrolling the borders near Anlong Veng in Oddar Meanchey province have arrested two Thais, a mother and a son, for crossing to pick wild mushrooms inside Cambodian territory.

Mr. Touch Ra, Deputy Chief of Choam Sa-Ngam Border Checkpoint in Anlong Veng, said the mother and son crossed 200 metres into Cambodian territory to pick wild mushrooms and were arrested on the spot. They were released the same day after intervention from the Thai authority and after the Cambodian authority found out that they had not done anything wrong.

Mr. Touch Ra added that both the Cambodian and Thai sides agreed that if people on both sides crossed the borders by accident, they must be released. However, if they had committed any wrongdoings they must be punished by laws, he said.

The Cambodian soft actions seem to be in contrast with the Thai heavy-handed actions which have seen many illegal Cambodian border-crossers brutally killed at the hands of the Thai border guards.

Cambodian are more sophisticated and Thai thieves are uncivilized dogs

I agree. Cambodian soldiers treated illegal Thais like human beings, while Thai soldiers treated illegal Cambodians like animals. This is because Thai soldiers are barbarians and cruel.
