Cambodian villagers and sources from local human rights groups said that Thai cowherds had taken their cattle to graze 200 metres deep inside Cambodian territory in Tehaing Pass, Boeng Snor village in SlorKram commune of Banteay Meanchey province, reports Radio Free Asia.
Mr. Sum Chankea, an Adhoc human rights official who use to frequent the border pass, said Thai cowherds have grazed their cattle in the area for many, many years already and that Cambodian authority has turned a blind eye to the violations.
Mr. Sok Cheat, a commune councillor from SlorKram commune, acknowledged that Thai cowherds had grazed their cattle in the area for many years and that some time they have crossed deep into the infamous K-5 Dam near O'Bei Choan village built by the Cambodian conscripted labourers in the 1980s where many of them died of malaria, overworked and landmines. "Villagers who went looking for firewoods saw the Thai cowherds and our soldiers went down and chased them out. Now, we haven't seen them in the area anymore", he said.
Last week, a group of Thai soldiers have planted 5 border posts in the nearby Chey Chok village, O'Bei Choan commune in O'Chrov district, but Cambodian soldiers from Division 503 went down to the area and uprooted all of them. And later, Thai jet fighters were seen flying menacingly over the area, said the villagers.
