Prince Sisowath Thomico (pictured), advisor to ex-King Sihanouk, whose parents had been murdered by the Khmer Rouge and who had long opposed the Khmer Rouge trial, said the sentencing of Duch, the Tuol Sleng Prison Chief, to 35 years jail is a "theatre" to showcase local and international community, reports everyday.com.

Speaking from Beijing on Tuesday, Prince Thomico said if the Tribunal is serious about finding justice for the Khmer Rouge victims it should try another 200 Khmer Rouge prison chiefs. "I have no particular comments to make regarding the court's verdict. I think that it is a theatre. If justice is what the court is concerned about, then the nearly 200 more Khmer Rouge prison chiefs must be brought to trials along with Duch because there were other 192 torture and execution centres during the Khmer Rouge regime", he said.

However, Prince Thomico said he agrees with the victims that the 35 years prison term handed down to Duch is light. "I agree with the victims. How can they have peace in their mind about this issue (verdict)? How can the victims who have died have peace in their mind?", he asked.

The Khmer Rouge Tribunal on Monday sentenced Duch to 35 years jail for the tortures and executions of about 16,000 inmates in Tuol Sleng prison.
