Google Earth has corrected its Preah Vihear map by using the map that was used by the International Court of Justice to reach its verdict that gives ownership of the temple to Cambodia in 1962, reports Radio Free Asia.
In February, Cambodia accused Internet giant Google of being "professionally irresponsible" for placing "almost half of the Khmer (Preah Vihear) temple in Thailand".
In its statement on 26th July, Google said it had made an attempt to draw and produce the best maps. It said that it has redrawn the Preah Vihear map by basing its data on the verdict of the International Court of Justice in 1962, but stressed that the areas surrounding the temple are disputed areas.
Mr. Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, said he welcomes Google Earth corrections, but said he is disappointed that Google Earth had stressed that the Preah Vihear areas are disputed areas. However, he stressed that Google Earth's corrections have provided further evidence that Preah Vihear is a possession of Cambodia. He also stressed that the areas surrounding Preah Vihear temple are not "disputed areas". They are Cambodian territories, he said.
