Thai troops have reportedly encroached 80-100 metres into Cambodian territory at K-5 Dam in Tuol Prasath village, Poipet disitrict, reports everyday.com.

Mr. Khuon Vanna, president of the Development Association, said a group of black-clad Thai soldiers from Battalion 1270 of the 12th Division have encroached into the area two nights consecutively. He said normally Thai troops only stay 350-400 metres away from the disputed area that they have now occupied.

Cambodian officials cannot seek clarification from the Thai side as to why they sent the troops to the area deemed disputed.

At the same time, a lone Thai national was arrested when he illegally crossed into Cambodian territory at Ansess village in Choam Ksan district of Preah Vihear province on 13th May. After he was arrested, 21 year-old Soumchit Larza told Cambodian officials that he live in Darn village, Pharm commune of Kantaralak district in Sisaket province and he came to Cambodia to visit relatives in Veal Khum village, Choam Ksan commune in Choam Ksan district of Preah Vihear province as well as to go hunting on the Dangrek Mountains. He said he had hidden his gun in the bush and led Cambodian officials to retrieve the gun which was hidden not far from the barrack of a headquarter of Cambodian 2nd battalion. He was detained at a police station in Choam Ksan awaiting a decision from the Interior Ministry.
