French experts began training Cambodian troops for peacekeeping missions

French experts from the French Defence Ministry has begun training Cambodian troops for future UN peacekeeping missions, especially peacekeeping in Francophone countries, reports everyday.com.

Brig-Gen. Taing Samborn, director of Institute of Military Training at Oudong, said 25 military personnel have taken part and the period of training will take 24 days to complete which started from 10th of May to 4th of June.

Gen. Taing Samborn said this is the second batch of training provided by the French Defence Ministry. The first batch of training took place in October 2009 where a number of Cambodian military personnel from battalion 306 were trained on the skills of packaging material and equipments and the French language training.

Cambodia has sent troops to serve in UN peacekeeping missions in several African countries, including the Sudan, Chad and Central Africa. Currently, the batch of military personnel from battalion 305 are serving in UN peacekeeping missions in Chad and in Central Africa.
