The Phnom Penh Magistrate Court has on 11th May adjourned a fraud case against an executive of South East Asia TV (SEATV) by delaying the case to the 18th of May to give more time for investigation, reports Deum Ampil.
Mr. Sem Sovandeth (pictured), a Khmer-American who was the first to revive Khmer music after the collapse of the Khmer Rouge regime and the executive of SEATV, was accused by Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, SEATV co-owner and Secretary of State of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of embezzlement. He was arrested and jailed at PJ Prison since October 2009 on charges of embezzling $4.7 million.
SEATV and Radio is a joint venture between a Japanese investor and Dr. Kao Kim Hourn with the aim of broadcasting objective and independent and unbiased news to the Cambodian population.
Dr. Kao Kim Hourn and his lawyer accused of Mr. Sem Sovandeth of embezzling the money by inflating invoices and salary payrolls. However, Mr. Sovandeth and his lawyer categorically denied all the charges.
The Jusge adjourned the case to give time for further investigation and reset the new hearing date for 18th May.
