Sem Sovandeth led away by police.By Khmerization
Mr. Sem Sovandeth (pictured), a director of the newly-established South East Asia TV, has been arrested on 13th October on suspicions of frauds, reports Deum Ampil.
Mr. Sem Sovandeth was one of the Diaspora Cambodians in the United States who pioneered the revival of the Khmer music in the 1980s when he set up his company to re-record and remaster the 1960s and 1970s music of legendary singers Sin Sisamouth, Ros Serey Sothea and Pen Rorn.
Mr. Sem sovandeth was arrested for frauds a few days after his South East Asia TV began broadcasting in Cambodia. South East Asia TV was established with major investments from Japanese investors.
According to sources, the Japanese investors found out that some funds had been unaccounted for and lodged a legal complaint with the police and Mr. Sem was arrested for frauds and detained at the Ministry of Interior.
Sources said the arrest of Mr. Sem Sovandeth happened after Mr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Ministry who is a representative for the Japanese investors lodged a legal complaint when 7 million dollars were found to be missing from the investment accounts.

I think it is a business dispute and Kao Kim Hourn uses his high position in the government to punish is business partner.
Time will tell but I don't think the truth will never be known because in Cambodia, the weak always be the victim in any dispute, if the other side happens to be the rich and the powerful.
I think Dr. Kao Kim Hourn is clean on this since he holds a Phd from Hawaii university.
Dont accuse Dr. Kao Kim Hourn on this.
Because he is a Ph.D holder doesn't mean that he can't be wrong. This is a business dispute that involved a lucrative business. Kao Kim Hourn certainly used his power as a Secretary of Foreign Affairs to get his business partner arrested.
People know that Kao Kim Hourn came to Cambodia and became head of one NGOs. He was very critical of the government, but later he betrayed his principles and sold his soul and joined with the evil he had once criticized. Is this what people called "clean"?
I would call Kao Kim Hourn's switch side as an opportunistic move for his personal benefits by betraying his principles.
I think you are smart but you should open your mind and eye abit to see the development of Cambodia in the last ten years. I dont know whether you have come to witnessed the development here in Cambodia. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn made a right decision to switch from Funcinpec party to CPP because as you could see CPP is the only party which could bring Cambodia to a new front of development and national image. He has brought Cambodian image to ASEAN and he has served ASEAN for a quite along time.
So please just be fair with him.

I agreed that there are some developments, but don't you think that the developments can be better than this? after all $500 million/year has been missing by the widespread corruption.
If the Sam Rainsy Party is leading the country, the developments would have been more impressive than what we've seen today.
No one can stop Kao Kim Hourn from changing side. But a principled politician, who thinks of national interests more than personal interests, will never joined the evil they once despised. Kao Kim Hourn is an opportunistic individual who thinks about personal interests more than national interests, that's why he joined Hun Sen.
If he is a principled person, he should have joined NGOs or opposition parties, like Lao Mong Hay or Kem Sokha etc...
Back to Sem Sovandeth and Kao Kim Hourn, I think it is a personal and business dispute and Kao Kim Hourn uses his influence as a government minister to persecute his business partner.
I cannot discount Sovandeth's crimes, but so far there is no concrete proof, only what was detailed in Kim Hourn's complaint.

People can assume whatever they like. But the truth will be revealed soon. It's funny how I heard Kao Kim Hourn was very nice with Sem Sovanndeth before this incident. He had Mr. Sem Sovanndeth control everything since the launch of the SEA Radio FM 106. Sem Sovanndeth built the whole entire radio station and then continued working on the television station. Right when the TV station was able to go on-air and after the funder from Japan came down for SEA TV & Radio Press Conference. Kao Kim Hourn sued and arrested Sem Sovanndeth. What surprised me was that Kao Kim Hourn made his wife take over the television station. She's such an uneducated lady. Did you see her on TV? She couldn't even read right. It seemed like it was all a plan. I wonder how much money Kao Kim Hourn took from his Japanese funder. He ran out of money to pay for the rest of the tv station so he had no choice but to accuse his business partner for all the missing money. Supposedly 7 million? If he took 7 million how the hell can both TV & Radio station run 24 hours everyday? Haha. What a lame. The truth will be shown soon. He's such an idiot.
