Cambodia is developing border areas with Laos by constructing villages equipped with schools, hospitals as well as building three new roads along the Khmer-Laotian borders, reports Cambodian Express News.
Among the three new roads, Cambodia is building a 200 kilometres long road connecting towns and villages along the borders between the two countries.
The constructions of these roads, to be supervised by Maj-Gen. Kheng Someth, Commander of the Army Engineering Unit in Siem Reap, was an initiative of Prime Minister Hun Sen in February 2010.
Gen. Kheng Someth said the first line of road, 68 kilometres long, will connect the Emerald Triangle (Mom Bei) in Choam Ksan district in Oddar Meanchey province with Kampong Srolao village in Kampong Srolao commune. The second line, 56 kilometres long, will connect Kampong Srolao with Thalaborivat district in Stung Treng province, and the third line, 58 kilometres long, will connect Kampong Srolao with Chhem district in Preah Vihear province.
Gen. Kheng Someth said the first 100 kilometres of road to Kampong Srolao, built with red gravels, have already been temporarily open to the public.
