Many casinos in Bavet City on the Khmer-Vietnamese borders have reportedly allowed Khmer citizens to gamble in their gambling dens in breach of Cambodian laws which prohibit Cambodian citizens from gambling in any of the many casinos in Cambodia, reports Kampuchea Thmey.

Cambodian citizens living near the casinos said the many casinos along the borders even have a cockfighting rings where Khmer and Vietnamese gamblers waged bets from between 20-50 million Vietnamese dongs ($1052-$2631).

According to Cambodian Gambling Laws, only foreigners are allowed to gamble in the kingdom's many casinos. Cambodian citizens are prohibited and casino owners will be prosecuted if they are found to have allowed Cambodian to gamble in their gambling dens. However, many casino owners are patronised by powerful top Cambodian leaders and as such local authority dare not touch them.
