"Yuon: What's in a Xenonym?" in Khmer Published in Koh Santepheap

Dear Friends,

Our article (Kenneth So and Sophal Ear) on "Yuon: What's in a Xenonym" has been translated in Khmer and published in the Khmer newspaper Koh Santepheap. We are very thankful to Socheata Vong for her great dedication and effort in translating this article. The English version of this article has been published in the Phom Penh Post in February 8, 2010. We feel that our article must also be published in Khmer to reach the Khmer population who cannot read or understand English very well. Hopefully, our article will give additional information to our Khmer people to use to defend the usage of the word Yuon that has been in existence in our language for thousands of years. I thought that colonialism is dead. Physically, it may be true but the colonialism of the mind is still alive and well. This colonialism of the mind is a new form of stronger countries (and/or old colonialist countries) to dictate their wills on smaller and poorer countries. In my opinion, this form of colonialism is much more potent and dangerous than the antiquated physical domination/colonization of another country. The colonialism of the mind robs people of their heritage and humanity. It tears apart our soul which is the foundation of our existence.

Respecfully Yours,
Kenneth T. So
