Prime Minister has announced that he is removed Ty Sokun (pictured) from his as Director General of Forestry department during an annual meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture on Tuesday, 6th April, reports Radio Free Asia.

However, according to the report, Mr. Ty Sokun will be instead re-appointed to the powerless position of Secretary of State of Ministry of Agriculture, in place of the powerful position of Director General.

The sacking of Mr. Ty Sokun happened at a time when Mr. Hun Sen is ordering a crackdown of illegal logging when many illegal timber warehouses belonging to powerful businessmen and politicians have been raided.

Mr. Ty Sokun is the son-in-law of the current Minister of Agriculture Chan Sarun who is the older borther of Oscar-winning actor Haing S. Ngor who starred in the Killing Fields film. Mr. Chan Sarun is also a very close aide of Senate President Chea Sim who is the main political rival of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Nowadays, other CPP factions are the opposition party. Hun Sen will stamp out all opposition. If Ty Sokhun was doing his job, he would have stopped his own forestry staff from looting the forests. Think he is an honest guy? Think again.

Ty Sokun, Chan Sarun and others are very corrupt, the destroyers of Cambodian forests. Global Witness named these people, including Sokun, in its reports as the persons behind all illegal logging in Cambodia.
