PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Cambodian officials say South Korea has provided US$9.2 million to build a new road that will circle the famed Angkor temple complex and reduce traffic in the area.
Soeung Kong, a Cambodian official who oversees the temples, says construction will start this year and take three years to complete.
The official said Monday the 13-mile (21-kilometer) road will be open only to tourists visiting the ancient temples.
Villagers who live in the area will be diverted to pre-existing roads in an effort to reduce vibrations caused by trucks that could be damaging the ancient ruins.
