Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) has on Wednesday morning praised the military and Thai-owned TV5 after he blasted it for the lack of military programs and for not broadcasting his speeches, reports Deum Ampil.

During a speech to army personnel in Battambang on 27th February, Mr. Hun Sen threatened to close down the TV station and ordered it to stop using the army's name and logo because it failed to fulfill its duty of serving the army.

During the speech, he chided the station directors, most of them military generals, for not performing their duties up to the standard. "How many percentage of military programs did you broadcast? You broadcast much less than other stations of news related to the military. You should broadcast more than this. I just wanted to say this: I donned you with many stars (military insignia representing ranks), but those stars are useless. If you can't perform the duties, please sell all the shares to Anh (derogatory term for 'me')", Hun sen warned.

After strongly reprimanded by Mr. Hun Sen, the station management immediately reprogrammed the broadcast material and more military programs were seen broadcast the next day, including Mr. Hun Sen's old speeches.

Gen. Neang Phat, the station director who was singled out by Mr. Hun Sen, immediately ordered more military programmes to be broadcast immediately. “Today we have three [new] programmes in one day related to Cambodia’s military,” he said. “There is a morning show from 6 until 6:30, an afternoon show from 2 until 3, and at night we added one military news programme that will air from 7 until 7:30 every day,” he added.

On Wednesday the 4th of March, Hun Sen highly praised TV5 for its quick responses to his criticism.
