Ten Thai troops based at Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda since 15th July 2008, have been asked to leave their temple base to clear the way for Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's visit to the area, reports Deum Ampil.
Mr. Hun Sen arrived in the area at 12:12 in the afternoon of Saturday 6th February accompanied by his wife and a number of senior ministers with tight security.
Earlier, the Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said that if Mr. Hun Sen wish to visit the 4.6sq. kilometres disputed zone, in which the Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda is located, the Cambodian side has to ask the permission from the Thai side. During a speech upon arriving at Preah Vihear, Mr. Hun Sen strongly warned that not only that he will visit the area, but he will order the eviction of any Thai soldiers based in or just came into the area. "Not only that we won't inform them about our visit, but we will go there and evict you (the Thai soldiers) out from the area", he is reported as saying.
The International Court of Justice in 1862 adjudicated that Cambodia has exlusive ownership of the 4.6sq. kilometres which has been deemed in dispute by Thailand after Preah Vihear temple was inscribed by Unesco on 7th July 2008.
