Cambodian government officials rejected outright the Thai claims to ownership of Ta Krabey temple (pictured) recently reported in the Bangkok Post, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. Phay Siphan, spokesman for the Council of Ministers, has accused the Bangkok Post of acting as a propaganda tool of the Thai government and its expansionist policies. "We knew clearly that the Bangkok Post never seek to clarify anything [before publication]. It is just a tool of propaganda to fullfil [Thailand's] expansionist and aggression attitude toward us. Please be informed that there is no such temple called Ta Kwai temple in the Thai language. They [Thais] called it Ta Kwai temple in Thai which means Ta Krabey [grandfather buffallo] in Khmer. And this temple was controlled by Cambodian troops a long time ago but the temple is located very close to the areas where the Khmer-Thai Land Boundary Commission was working to plant the border demarcation markers, so it is located inside Khmer territory", he said.

Ta Krabey temple, which means the temple of Grandfather Buffallo in Khmer, located on top of the Dangrek Mountaints in Thmor Daun village, Kork Morn commune in Banteay Ampil district in Oddar Meanchey province, was controlled by Cambodian troops until Thai troops staked claims to it in late 2008.

The Khmer Express News reported that, according to Maj. San Heap, commander of Battalion 421 attached to Division 42, on 11th February 2010, 6 Thai soldiers attempted to occupy the temple, but were pushed back by Cambodian soldiers stationed at the temple.

Col. Neak Vong, commander of Division 42, said told reporters that at present the situations at Ta Moan Thom temple, located about 13-14 kilometres from ta Krabey temple, have returned to normal after talks which both sides agreed to only deployed 5-6 unarmed troops from each side in the temple compound.
