The U.S embassy in Phnom Penh revealed that in 2009 it has funded the trips of 58 Cambodian exchange students to study in the United States on short-term and long-term programs, reports everyday.com.

Mr. John Johnson (pictured), the U.S embassy spokesman, said on 11th January that the numbers of exchange students had increased by 37 students compared to 2008 when the U.S embassy had provided funding for only 21 students. He said in 2010 the numbers of exchange students will depend on the available funds.

Mr. Johnson said the embassy spent $884,132 to fund the trips and scholarships for the 58 students in the 2009 financial year.
