Prince Norodom Ranariddh, former leader of the royalist Funcinpec Party and ex-prime minister of Cambodia, has vowed not to re-enter politics and will instead devote all his energy to humanitarian works, reports everyday.com.

Prince Ranaridhh's decision came after Prime Minister Hun Sen vowed to unflinchingly defend the monarchy and protect the king. "I heard the prime minister (Hun Sen) said when he had an audience with the king that not only himself, but his children and grandchildren as well, will always respect the king and protect the monarchy, but the monarchy that respects the constitution", said Prince Ranariddh.

When asked about his political future, Prince Ranariddh had given clear indication that he will never re-enter politics, but will devote all his energy to run his charity foundation that he had founded. "I wish to tell you the truth that when I said that I quit politics it means that Ranariddh will not lead a political party. But when I talk about history it might touch a little bit on politics, but it doesn't mean that I am involved in politics. The word "playing politics" means that you are leading a political party to participate in the election so you can become a leader of a country. This is what "playing politics" means. So in this sense, I wish to tell you that I will not be playing any politics", he said.

According to Radio France Internationale, Prince Ranariddh is currently busy raising money to support his charity foundation through screening his movies. He is currently in France to organise the screening of his second movie, titled "Destiny" that he directed and produced. The movie features almost entirely about the royal ballet. His first movie, titled "The Royal Capital", starring Miss Ouk Phalla who is his current wife and produced in 2002, was about a romance between a royal sculptor and a royal ballet dancer.

Currently, Prince Ranariddh is Privy Councillor to the current King Sihamoni, with his status and perks ranking equivalent to that of the prime minister.
