100 SEA Radio staff sacked

By Khmerization

About 100 staff of South East Asia Radio have reportedly been sacked by the radio's new management, reports Deum Ampil.

South East Asia Radio and TV was a joint venture between Mr. Sem Sovandeth (pictured), a U.S citizen and a pioneer Khmer musical revivalist, and Mr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary of State the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with funds provided by the Japanese investors. In October of this year, the pair had a fallout and Mr. Sem Sovandeth was arrested on charges of embezzling $7 million of the joint venture funds. However, the majority of staff supported Mr. Sem Sovandeth.

The 100 staff were reportedly told of their sackings in November. Mrs. Malis, the administrator of SEA Radio, did not dispute the sackings. She only say that the number of sackings are not as high as has been reported.
