Thailand opposed Cambodia becoming a member of Unesco Heritage Committee, Cambodia reacted

By Khmerization

Cambodia has strongly reacted to comments from some Thai MPs that Thailand is opposed to Cambodia becoming a permanent member of the Unesco World Heritage Committee, reports Reaksmei Kampuchea.

During a roundtable forum, organised to respond to the Thai MPs' comments, Mr. Cheam Yiep (pictured), Cambodian MP from the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), strongly rebuked the behaviours of the Thai MPs by saying that, according to the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904, Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907 and the verdict of the International Court of Justice in 1962, Cambodia is the sole owner of the Preah Vihear temple and therefore Cambodia has every right to become a permanent member of the Unesco World Heritage Committee without opposition from anyone, let alone Thailand.

He added that he will personally volunteer to go and fight with Thai troops if war break out over Preah Vihear.

On 22nd October, 40 Thai MPs held a seminar at the Thai parliament and had adopted two resolutions. First, the Thai parliament resolutely requests for a joint listing of the Preah Vihear temple between Thailand and Cambodia. Secondly, the Thai parliament is resolutely opposed to the membership of Cambodia in the Unesco World Heritage Committee.

Unesco will hold a meeting on the 26th of October to elect new permanent members of its Heritage Committee.

Returning from a Unesco meeting in Paris on 21st October, Deputy PM Sok An, who is in charge of Cambodia's Unesco affairs, said among the 186 Unesco member countries, 143 member countries had promised to vote for Cambodia becoming a permanent member of the Heritage Committee.

Thailand will stop at nothing when it comes to Cambodia getting more world attention. It seems that Thailand is jealous of Cambodia.

Thailand knows full well that Preah Vihear temple is solely the property of Cambodia by international laws.

Cambodia has every right to become a member of any organization, not just Unesco, and Thailand has no business in stopping Cambodia.

The act of this group of Siam MPs should be another reminder to Khmer leaders that WASTE no more time in bilaterial talk. Dont just threat to take it to regional/ world forum, make it happened, and today at the ASEAN summit.

Yes, waste no time in bilateral talks with Thailand because they are playing games with Cambodia. Bring the issue to UN, Asean or International Court.

Let Thai/Siem dogs bark all they want. Cambodia should just be focusing on what is good for Cambodia. The bastards Thai/Siem are very envious of Cambodia. Anything Cambodia do for the sake of Cambodia is a threat to Thailand. The bastard is paranoid about Cambodia becoming a strong nation. A stronger Cambodia will make Thailand appears weak. Thai/Siem had been celebrating Cambodia's downfalls eversince the fall of Khmer Empire. They expect Cambodia to keep going down until Cambodia no longer exist, but when Cambodia is slowly coming up, the bastards make sure that Cambodia isn't going to come up. I urge Cambodia government to ignore and play deaf ears on what Thailand thinks of Cambodia's policy. Do what is the best interest of Cambodia and its people.

Khmer Empire had been up for less then a thousand years then Khmer Empire collapsed. The same case to Thailand that has been up since the fall of Khmer Empire. Now it is time for Thailand to go down.
