Think deeper.

Q: Why do people have to cross the border illegally or forage for food in areas that would be well known as dangerous for such activities? Why do we not have thai people (not military) crossing illegally into Cambodia? What is forcing Cambodians to take such risky actions?

A: Poverty.

Q: Why is Cambodia still poor despite having one of the world's greatest untouched resources of tropical timber as of 1979?

A: Cambodia no longer has the timber because powerful interests on both sides of the conflict colluded to plunder the country and live grandly of the profits.

Q: Would the same thing happen to oil discovered of Cambodia's coast?

A: As the government is unwilling to set up a transparent sovereign wealth fund (Norway has done this and has the highest living standard in the whole of Europe - for everyone) and is unwilling to pass an anticorruption law then it will probably occur in the same way.

Q: What would be the solution to such a situation?

A: Free thought, a thirst for knowledge from which to make decisions and the willingness to speak your mind in any language. Good luck.

Todd Terje, a very good thought indeed. Cambodia can be rich and prosperous only when the present corrupt and dictatorial leaders are gone.

Norway is rich because their leaders put national interests before personal interests. The present Cambodian leaders did the opposite, that's why Cambodia and Cambodians are still very poor and will still be very poor for a long time to come if they still rule Cambodia.
