The prosecution has, for the fifth time, deferred a decision on whether to indict former PM's office minister Jakrapob Penkair (pictured) on a charge of lese majeste, this time until Oct 7.

Prosecutor Amnat Muthitacharoen, of the Attorney-General's criminal litigation department, said on Frida the postponement was made at the request of Jakrapob's lawyer, who said his client was on important business abroad.

If Jakrapob did not show up on Oct 7, a warrant would be issued for his arrest, said Mr Amnat.

Jakrapob is alleged to have committed lese majeste during a speech at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand on Aug 29, 2007.

On 28th August, 46 year-old Daranee Charnchoengsilpakul, a female supporter of Thaksin was sentenced to 18 years jail for insulting King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

thank god i live in america. i can call any name and citicize the president and not getting persecuted. now a day, king doesn't get the same respect like many centuries ago. thailand needs to stop putting their king on a peddle stool for worship. they are not god but they are human like us.

It is similar in Cambodia where the ruling CPP party persecuted critics with defamation and disinformation laws. In Thailand, lese majeste law has become a very powerful tool for the Establishments or the government of the day to use to persecute/prosecute their critics.

The Monarchy, particular King Bhumibol, the so-called Establishments, has effectively used lese majeste laws to put many of his critics in jailed.
