A senior Cambodian commander has requested that Thai troops close all trenches recently dug in the disputed zones, reports RFA.

The report also said that Cambodian military had warned that Cambodia will use self-denfence rights to defend its territories if the Thai military dig trenches inside the Cambodian territories.

Gen. Chea Dara, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Army, said on Wednesday the 15th that he had made a request during a meeting with Thai commanders the previous day. He said that the Thai commanders had accepted his request, but up until Wednesday all those trenches have not been filled yet.

But a Khmer officer said the Thais promised to close all the trenches. He said: "The Thai commanders in charge told us that yesterday they cannot fill in all the trenches because it was raining very hard."

However, RFA said that its reporter based in Bangkok had made a telephone contact with a Thai officer from the Thai Military Region Two who said that the Thai military will not close all the trenches it had dug in the "disputed zones" as requested by the Cambodian military.

A Cambodian soldier said that the Thai military had closed down a numbers of its trenches near Phnom Trop and Ta Sem Pass on 14th July.

Another Cambodian soldier based in Chak Chreng said that on 15th July the Thai military had transported 30 more engineering soldiers to the area and that they had started building a concrete bunker in the area. He sadi: "The Thais had sent two more trucks of reinforcements. The previous truck they brought in 10 soldiers and the next two trucks they brought in another 20 soldiers."

On 10th July, Gen. Wiboolsak Neepal, Thai Commander of Military Region Two, told Chinese newsagency Xinhua that the Thai military had spent 20 million Thai Baht ($US586,000) to build 20 bunkers along the disputed zones.
