Cambodia warned that it is ready for war if Thailand wants a military solution to the Preah Vihear conflict, said Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong in a press conference on 20th June.

Mr. Hor Namhong's stern warning has come amid media reports that the Thai PM, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, had instructed his cabinet to request the Unesco to review its decision regarding the registration of the Preah Vihear temple in the World Heritage List on 7th July, 2008 which was opposed by Thailand.

In a press conference in Phnom Penh on 20th June, Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hor Namhong said that the listing of Preah Vihear temple is purely a Cambodian and Unesco affair because Preah Vihear temple is solely the property of Cambodia. The Deputy PM said the listing of the temple has nothing to do with Thailand.

Mr. Hor Namhong said that Thailand's repeated comments about its intention to request Unesco to review its decision is a provocation, despite strong reactions from Cambodia.

Mr. Hor Namhong said that these sorts of comments are particularly disturbing because they come from the top Thai leadership who had just been warmly welcomed in Cambodia a few days earlier. The Deputy PM was referring to the warm welcome accorded to Thailand's Prime Minister, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, on his visit to Cambodia on 12th June, 2009.

He also warned that the Thai actions will further complicate border talks and also lead to increased border tensions.

Mr. Hor Namhong said he received reports that on the morning of 20th June, the Commander of the Thai Second Military Region had ordered his frontline troops to be on high alert. Mr. Hor Namhong has said that, in response to the actions of the Thai military, Cambodia has also ordered its frontline troops to be on high alert too.

Mr. Hor Namhong said: "If they (Thailand) want to send their troops into Cambodian territories a third time, we will welcome them. We have readied our troops in all aspects. If they want a political solution, an international legal solution or a military solution, we are ready. Whatever they want."
