Mr. Sam Rainsy supports Mr. Hun Sen's idea of combining between Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Finance

Reported by Khmerization

Mr. Sam Rainsy (pictured), leader of Cambodia's largest opposition party, has reportedly said that he supports Prime Minier Hun Sen's speech indicating that he will dissolve the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Finance and combine them into one ministry, reports Kampuchea Thmey newspaper.

In a speech in Sihanoukville last week, Prime Minister Hun Sen threatened to abolish the two ministries and combine them into one, after both ministries had been constantly fighting each other on their conflicting roles in the control of collections of imports and customs duties.

According to Kampuchea Thmey, Mr. Sam Rainsy said that many other countries around the world do not have the Ministry of Commerce becasuse the Ministry of Finance and Economy can handle all trades and commercial activities that have usually been handled by the Ministry of Commerce. To have two ministries in charge of trades and collections of imports and customs duties would cause bureaucratic red tapes and anarchy, Mr. Sam Rainsy said.

Mr. Sam Rainsy, who is an ex-Minister of Finance and Economy, said that when he was the Minister he had clashed many times with the Minister of Commerce because of unclear roles and overlapping responsibilities between the two ministries, reports Kampuchea Thmey.
