Chairman of the Khmer Civilisation Foundation, Mr. Moeung Son, said he is disappointed with the lack of response from the Thai and Cambodian government to his request for compensation claims on behalf of the Preah Vihear villagers whose homes were destroyed by Thai shelling during the fighting on 3rd April 2009.

The Khmer Civilisation Foundation had submitted the compensation claims to the embassy on 23rd April for 261 families whose homes were destroyed by the Thai shells, but so far there is no response from the Thai government.

Mr. Moeung Son said: "Another pessemism is that we did not hear any response from our government whom we appealed for help in representation to the Thai government of our behalf to make compensations to the villagers as well as hearing any response from the Thai government."

Mr. Moeung Son said he will further explore his options to help the villagers secure the compensation. He said: "We will write a letter to the UN to request them to make a representation to the Thai government on our behalf to get a response from the Thai government. We will aslo write to the Thai king to ask him a amke a representation on our behalf to the Thai government. And we will aslo write to the government to help intervene on our behalf."
In 2003, Cambodia had paid $56 million dollars in compensation to the Thai government after Cambodian rioters destroyed Thai businesses and burnt down the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh.
