Kep Chutema's bodyguard killed Chea Sim's bodyguard

The shoot out on 18th March that killed one person and wounded two were happened between Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chutema's bodyguard and Senate President Chea Sim's bodyguards.

Witnesses said that at around 8 pm, two groups of men verbally clashed and gun shots were discharged, killing a bodyguard of Mr. Chea Sim, who is also the president of the ruling Cambodian People's Party. The man, believed to be a 30 year-0ld bodyguard of Kep Chutema, wounded one more of Mr. Chea Sim's bodyguards before he was himself wounded.

The shoot out happened on Monivong Boulevard near Seoul Restaurant. The dead man, Dy Chan Thea and his colleague were escorting Lt-Gen. Choeung Chanthorn, who is commander of Mr. Chea Sim's bodyguard unit, to dine at Seoul Restaurant. When Gen. Choeung Chanthorn's car exits the restaurant's car park, his bodyguards got into a scuffle with a man and Dy Chan Thea, who is also a younger brother of Gen. Choeung Chanthorn, was shot dead.

According to Koh Santepheap newspaper, after shooting dead Dy Chan Thea, the unknown man, who is also believed to be wounded, ran toward the Phnom Penh City Town Hall and was later identified as a bodyguard of Governor Kep Chutema.

According to the same Koh Satepheap report, on the afternoon of 19th March, the family of the murderer (Kep Chutema's bodyguard) and the family of the dead man (Gen. Choeung Chanthorn's family) had reached a compensation agreement, but the amount of the compensation has not been revealed. It is not known whether the murderer will face a court of laws.
