Funcinpec party members ask the party leadership not to remove the parliamentary immunity of Princess Norodom Vacheara and Prince Norodom Sirivudh by pulling them out of their National Assembly seats, because the pair never oppose the party leadership following the coup de party held on 18 October 2006. The Doeum Ampil newspaper reported a reliable Funcinpec party official who said that the Funcinpec plans to remove the prince and princess from their MP position because the two royals are out of the country and they never visited their local areas as MPs. Nevertheless, the party lower ranking members asked the party leadership to be lenient and leave these two royals until the end of their third National Assembly mandate because the pair are strong supporters of a law preventing royal family members from participating in politics. Observers said that the plan to remove the two royals from their MP positions could not be done if Funcinpec does not receive the CPP’s support because 2/3 of votes are required to remove the two from their positions.
