PHNOM PENH, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Transport Minister Sun Chanthol said on Tuesday that the Southeast Asian country is seeking financial support from China to build a new airport, new railroads, and an expressway.

The minister made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with visiting Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng.

"We proposed the Chinese side to support the construction of a new airport in (northwestern) Siem Reap province," Sun Chanthol told reporters after the meeting.

"Also, we asked China to provide concessional loans to Cambodia for the rehabilitation of existing railways and for the study and development of new railroads from Poipet City to Siem Reap province and from Siem Reap province to Phnom Penh capital," he said.

The minister added that he also suggested that China provide a concessional loan to the China Road and Bridge Cooperation to construct an expressway from Phnom Penh to seaport Preah Sihanouk province.

According to Sun Chanthol, Gao had positively responded to those proposals and promised to send Chinese experts to work with the Cambodian side in order to get the details of those projects.

Earlier in the day, Gao met with Cambodian Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak and Finance Minister Aun Porn Moniroth to explore ways to broaden bilateral ties and cooperation.

Gao arrived here on Monday for a two-day visit. He paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Monday afternoon.
