Yes, and No.

Yes, because this situation increases the possibility of an uprising against his regime. No, because such a scenario/outcome/uprising is not what he personally would want, and he has consistently resorted to the use of violence and crackdowns in response to such possibilities from the start of his rule - with Vietnam's approval and backing, of course.

The main reason why Hun Sen opts to stay under Vietnam's direction and tutelage is more to do with political self-preservation than any other calculations, such as the fear of turning against his patrons-backers in the Vietnamese. Hanoi cannot prolong its rule or hegemony for ever over Cambodia without the CPP or any other Cambodian faction acting as its stool and conduit. On the other hand, the CPP with its roots, history and bloody hands cannot [and would not have lasted this long] without Vietnam's patronage and interference. The rest of the world community may struggle to see evidence of this active interference and involvement, but the Khmer people as a whole know better.

Thus, whilst Cambodia and Hun Sen or the CPP [even a CPP let by a more moderate faction within it] is able to survive without Vietnamese support/protection, it is unlikely that this Vietnamese installed instrument will have survived the collective will and desire of the Cambodian people - provided they remain the majority and are allowed to exercise their free will and decide their nation's destiny. The electoral verdict that was registered in the 1993 election is a case in point.

From this angle, we could see why Hun Sen always reacts violently against the Cambodian opposition and any other civil groups who he believes threaten the status quo. He fears his own population [as all other known world dictators do/have done] than he does his patrons to the east.

The Khmer people also want a new generation of leaders to lead them and their country; ones with progressive leanings and visions relevant to the age of smart phones and globalised market; not remnants of dinosaurs seen depicted on the walls of an Angkorian temple! Winston Churchill was an extraordinary war leader when his country was at war with Nazi Germany, but despite his national war-time hero status, the British people elected a Labour government to rule their nation instead after that war.

Now the question as to why Hanoi wants to keep Hun Sen in power at all, and what it expects of him in return, is one that deserves wider debate and discussion among ‘analysts’ and the press community at large.

I don't think Hun Sen become a hero by jail civil leader and cnrp to make all Khmer up ride like that because He is the one want to stay in power for ever and He was so happy to serve YUON unconditioned. He was swear to serve ANGKAR now is CPP for life and you know it THE ANGKAR is a ghost power and YUON is create and control that and I think you don't dream about that.
