Social media celebrity Thy Sovantha’s public Facebook page and personal profile were found to be deactivated yesterday, two days after an online campaign was started by her detractors to reduce the number of followers she had on Facebook.

It is unclear when the accounts were deactivated, or if it was done by Sovantha herself – who said yesterday she was “busy” and declined to comment – but their disappearance comes after some of her followers grew unhappy with her pursuit of a defamation case against CNRP acting president Kem Sokha in relation to an alleged sex scandal.

A cached version of her Facebook page shows it still active as of 7:23pm on Sunday with 1.62 million followers, a decline from the 1.65 million she had a few days ago.

Four new pages had popped up yesterday using the name of the one-time opposition darling, none of which could be verified.

Hing Soksan, president of the CNRP’s youth wing, said the accounts were most likely deactivated by Sovantha in response to growing resentment of her treatment of Sokha.

“Now they ‘unfriend’ because they know who she really is.”
