Old habits die hard

Re‘January 7’ Is Remembered by All Cambodians

Old habits die hard - Looking into history and the past can unlock plenty of 'secrets' and insights into a nation's present strife and impending troubles to come. Yet the merciless, territorial steam-roller that is the Vietnamese state has been far from being a detail consigned to history or the past, but rather an active, evolving continuum or process that has not shown signs of veering too far from its age-old ambitions and predatory trajectory; one that demands that the parts be subordinated to the whole whatever the consequences, whatever the costs, whatever the means needed to give flesh to those bones in original imperial ambitions and designs. Whilst busy rewriting, concocting this dark ignoble history, this state is equally dismissive and disparaging of its living victims and critics gazing at its past deeds or, indeed shedding light on the present ones, castigating those critics as "living in the past".

Nothing remains more disturbingly "unfounded" or more questionable than the rather nervous insistence by this Hanoi-installed Phnom Penh regime and its Vietnamese patron that everything conducted in the course of this one-sided relationship has been just and proper - from granted ELCs in the hundreds of thousands of hectares to Vietnamese agents, plundered natural resources to the point of decimation to enforced secrecy/non-transparency and silence on border issues by means of judicial sanction and prosecution of anyone daring to speak out ...  School of Vice

This post is very funny. It goes on to say that 7th Jan is not about the CPP but about the victory of the Khmers, then it goes to talk about how the CPP built bridges, and built roads.

It goes to show how uneducated the writer is, and unable to come up with anything positive under the CPP. Sure the French and the English fought each other. But at the end of the day, they settled.

Now look at the Youns and the Khmers. It is not a 2 ways win. Khmer lost 2 millions lives, Vietnam always wanted to conquer Cambodia, they did so in the past and still do today, by installing Hun Sen and the CPP, and by getting away with killing 2 million Khmers.

Did the French install a puppet in England? no. Did the English take over the French sovereignty and islands? No. The Youns on the other hand, bits by bits encroached into the Khmer land, took over Prey Nokor (now Saigon) then southern Cambodia (now South Vietnam) then took over Koh Tral (now Phu Qoc). Yet, the Youns got off with a jail free card.

We see the ECCC as useless, because Hun Sen should be tried as a Khmer Rouge Leader, also with Heng Samrin, and the Vietnamese should also be tried in ECCC for the genocide on the 2 million Khmer people, the genocide on K5, the genocide on the minorities they have oppressed. Eg, Khmer Krom, Mhong, Champa.

For Khmers to celebrate the 7th of January as a victory for everyone Vietnam have to return all the land back to the Khmer including Southern Cambodia, Prey Nokor, and Koh Tral, and also for Hun Sen to meet the devil in Hell for his ruthless killings under his 30 plus years regime.
