Vietnam today remains among the most totalitarian and repressive states in the world; second perhaps, only to North Korea in that unenviable honour. Even Communist China appears to allow its population more freedom of expression.
A 54-year-old Vietnamese woman died on Friday from injuries sustained when she was crushed by a bulldozer while she and fellow farmers were protesting the confiscation of farmland in northern Vietnam.
In an incident filmed by witnesses and posted on Youtube, Le Thi Cham is seen pinned under the bulldozer's track while she and dozens of farmers shout in vain to get the driver to stop.
According to Vietnamese state media, the farmers were protesting over the meager compensation for farmland seized to build an industrial park in Cam Dien, Hai Duong province, about 60 km (36 miles) from the capital Hanoi. Cham was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died of her injuries, the reports said.
Land grabs in which government officials use their authority to confiscate and sell land to developers are a common cause of social unrest across Southeast Asia and China, with cases causes small- and-large scale protests on an almost weekly basis.
In many cases, local villagers say they receive little compensation or less than was promised by authorities and are forced to vacate fertile land for less-productive parcels far from their places of origin and with poor infrastructure.

Explain to me why oversea Vietnamese are sending 33 times as much money as the oversea Khmer?
You know that most Khmer in USA cannot finish school? There is a genetic limitation in the Khmer race. What about the Khmer students in Cambodia? Last year the government cracked down the cheating, and only a quarter of students could pass the national exams.
The foreign companies had been complaining for years: Khmer workers are stupid, low skill and lazy. What's wrong Khmer?

I think the Vietnamese in recent time somewhat in limbo.
Vietnam has been bullied by the Chinese for quite sometimes in term of water territories encroachment by the Chinese.
Vietnam used to have the BIG BROTHER, the Russian or the former Soviet Union for support, but the big brother is no longer afford to help the little one any longer, due to the collapsed of the Soviet Union and economy.
Vietnam betrayed her former BIG SUPPORTER, THE CHINESE, by invaded Cambodia, during the KHMER REPUBLIC OF KAMPUCHEA, THE KHMER ROUGE, which was the closest ally of the Chinese.
That leave only one major superpower, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA for Vietnam to seek help in time of difficulty.
Certainly, Vietnam is in the precarious circumstances, this time the BIG BROTHER is a former adversary, extremely hatred toward each other just in recent history, the American blood has not been dried yet.
The big question is, "Will the hopefully new found BIG BROTHER comes to the rescue", in what prices.....will have to wait and see.

Don't forget the hidden Vietnamese secret agents hiding in Khmer Rouges uniforms during the Killing Fields (1975-1979) and Khmer Vietminh (Khmer Rouges as well). So, you can say there two types of Khmer Rouges have been created as Indochinese Fed under Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi master-minded communists. Khmer Rouges was not created by Chinese Mao Tzung, but Khmer Rouges (led by Pol Pot) were supported and supplied with military equipments to fight against Vietnamese communists to take Southern Cambodia or Kampuchea Krom (now called Southern Vietnam).
There were chaos and confusion among Khmer Rouges, one by Pol Pol, Sihanouk, Ho Chi Min and Hanoi or Indochinese Fed.

Apparently Vietnam has a big under-ground economy fueled by the tens of billions US dollars from the oversea Vietnamese.

This Dr Gunzet which I like to address him as DragonZen. Why so? because he shares the characteristic of the Serpent that deceived Eve. In the bible verse it declares that in the beginning God...God (Elohim) created Time. What is opposite of time? Eternity. Elohim God has no beginning because he is eternal. Meaning he has no beginning nor ending, he always existed without time or beginning.
Since time was created in the beginning for a purpose therefore there will be the end of time when the clock strikes at 12:00 PM as God had set according to the Cosmic Time Clock in the stars aligned with what transpires in the land of Israel and its people.
So what is my point? My point is that oppression and injustice in this wicked world will come to an end. Not by smart people like Dragonzen or by best of science finding or the wisdom of United Nations. Despite of human advancement in technology man is in a slippery slope to self destruction at best. This is the nature of the law of sin in effect. Their is no cure for man's sin and its effect without accepting what God has provided to deal with this cursed. By understand that God has set a time for all humanity redemption when the time is up is a hope to hang on to.
The whole world is in transgression against the law of God who created all things. So I don't expect any good from the efforts of frail human conception of Peace and Justice for this decaying world.
This world is sick and Dr Dragonzen is a big contributor to this by continuing exuding his superiority in effort to belittle all who are less learned. But all his days are as grass, as the flowers of the field he flourishes and fade away just like the grass and flowers if he grows to his ripe age of 70 or 80.
